The Minty Hug
These are crazy times and I don’t know about you but the holiday season feels weird this year. On the one hand I have less holiday stress since I’m not doing as much holiday shopping and we’re not attending as many holiday get togethers (or hosting them). On the other, the baseline stress is real with all the COVID crap going on. Needless to say, Derek and I have missed hardly one of our 4:00 happy hours. I usually ask Derek for a flavor direction or give him a few general options and then I go from there. This time Derek asked for something hot. I decided I wanted to do something different than just hot cocoa and saw the Creme de Menthe on the shelf. I’ve been on a real peppermint kick these days so it definitely spoke to me! I decided white chocolate would be nice with it and this drink was born.
Let’s get to it!
You’ll start by adding the milk and white chocolate to a small sauce pan.
Heat that over low heat until the milk is hot and the white chocolate is melted. Make sure you stir it occasionally, scraping white chocolate that might have fallen to the bottom.
While that’s heating up, divide the creme de menthe and Cognac between 2 or 3 mugs.
Once the white chocolate is melted, pour the milk mixture into the mugs and stir it all together.
Now you can serve it as is, or garnish with whipped cream (we’ve had the spray stuff on hand for the holidays and I am loving it!) or plop in a candy cane.
This drink is cozy and comforting just like the hugs we’re all missing out on right now. It’s sweet and minty but the Cognac rounds it all out.
Enjoy!
