Don’t Judge Me Mondays: Mommy’s Nightcap

/ Uncategorized

Happy Monday everyone, are you all surviving out there?  The last couple weeks at our house have been a whirlwind!  While I love the time I spend with our little Cupcake during the day, all of that also makes the quiet time Derek and I get together in the early mornings or evenings after she goes down  that much sweeter.  Sometimes we go to bed early but mostly we’ll just watch tv and revel in being new parents…and sometimes that includes a cocktail. ;). Lately I’ve been drinking more ginger ale, it turns out that raising a tiny human can be nerve-wracking so my tummy is a little unsettled these days.

Let’s get to it!

Fill a small cocktail glass with ice and pour in the ice wine.

If you’ve never had ice wine, it is a dessert wine and it’s typically a sweeter version of regular varietals.  It is also sometimes classified as “late harvest” wines, because as the grapes get riper the sugars develop and they get sweeter.  Since they are sweeter and a slightly higher alcohol content, a serving size is about half what a normal glass of wine would be. You should be able to find this type of wine near the ports or in the “dessert wine” section of any store where you normally shop.  For this recipe, I recommend a late harvest Riesling or Chardonnay because they have a lighter flavor and so complement the ginger ale instead of fighting with it.

Now pour in the ginger ale and give the drink a gentle stir.

Enjoy with your feet up and your favorite TV show (my most recent favorite has been The Crown!) or book if even for a few minutes.

Enjoy!
