Don’t Judge Me Mondays: Apple Wine Spritzer
Do you ever make things just by happenstance? I feel like I end up doing that a lot to use up a random ingredients. I’m trying to be even better about food waste, so once a week or so I’ll scour my pantry to make sure nothing is being forgotten. Anyway, that’s how this cocktail came to be. I bought apple cider for something and now it’s sitting in the fridge. I like apple cider, but I just don’t drink it that much on its own. I started ruminating, remembering that when I organized our wine fridge we had several bottles of Riesling. I combined those and with some experimenting, came up with our cocktail today!
Let’s get our spritz on!
Pour the apple cider and Riesling in your glass. Make sure you use apple cider and not juice, because you want that fresh apple taste. Here’s more info if you want to know the difference between the two. For the Riesling I recommend one that’s in the middle of the spectrum between sweet and dry. I’ve mentioned before how much we love the Dr. Loosen, so that’s what I used.
Now pour in the sparkling water (make sure it’s plain and not flavored) and give it a gentle stir.
Add a slice of apple for a garnish and enjoy!
This drink is perfect for this in-between time of year. At least here in the PNW, it’s still sometimes sunny and just getting cooler so this refreshing spritzer with autumn flavors is just right!
If you’re having a party this spritzer could also be easily made in a pitcher. I would mix the cider and wine in the pitcher and then pour the sparkling water in just before serving (or just top each glass off with it).
Enjoy!
