Don’t Judge Me Mondays: Reuben’s Brews Gose

/ Uncategorized

After having the beer pairing at our most recent meal at the Herb Farm, I was reminded how much I like sour beers.  It’s a little hard to explain sours other than the obvious, they have more of a sour rather than bitter flavor.  They are harder to find, but I really enjoy them.  I will admit, they can be an acquired taste which is I think part of the reason they are harder to find.  The processing of brewing sours is also more difficult because they can be unpredictable.  The sour flavor is created by adding wild yeast or bacteria which is obviously harder to contain. All of this to say, I’m on a mission to explore more sours!

Let’s get to it!

I was excited to find this local sour beer at Whole Foods!  Reuben’s Brews is in Seattle and makes a lovely Gose, which is a German-style sour that typically has salt added.

This Gose is light and bright with lovely lemony notes.  The sour flavors are not over powering but still there.  It’s a great beer to drink on its own or with food. For food pairings, I would drink it with something fatty. The sour crispness would cut through the richness of a juicy cheeseburger or a piece of avocado toast. It would also go well with a Cobb salad with lots of bacon and blue cheese. 🙂

Another bonus is that the alcohol content is fairly low at 4.3%, so it won’t leave you flat on your face if you want to have a few.  It’s also not overly pricey at $8.99 for a 4-pack.

I’d love to hear if you have a sour you really enjoy!
