Flavor of the Month: Carrot

/ Uncategorized

Another Flavor of the Month has ended.  Carrots are one of the less savory veggies, so it was really fun making more sweet items with them this month!

Here’s the rundown:

Carrot and Broccoli Salad – This is crunchy, sweet, and savory.  It feels somewhere between your typical broccoli salad and carrot raisin salad with golden raisins.  It has almonds for some crunch and a little blue cheese so it isn’t too sweet.

Carrot Jam – The carrots get soft and mixed with sugar they become sweet and syrupy.  This jam is great on toast with some almond butter or smeared on scones.

Carrot Ginger Smoothie – A smoothie is a great way to get some veggies in and this one is sweet, spicy, and refreshing!

The Carrot Cake – This cocktail has hints of coconut, raisin, and cinnamon just like the dessert!  I also love the bright orange color from the carrot juice.

I’ve officially been doing Flavor of the Month posts for a year now.  What do you guys think so far?  I’m planning on continuing with them, but also sprinkling in some themes rather than a particular flavor or ingredients.  However, I’d love your input!

In May, the Flavor of the Month will be a theme: Spring!  We are entering farmer’s market season and I can’t wait to see what kinds of things are available near us.  I also think it will be a fun outing for our Little Cupcake. 🙂
