Flavor of the Month: Bourbon

/ Uncategorized

Well, it’s hard to believe July has come to an end already!  Did you enjoy the Bourbon recipes I shared? I really had fun experimenting with Bourbon, especially with food.  Let’s look back at what I made:

Bourbon Caramel-Glazed Wings – This is the recipe I am most proud of! the bourbon Caramel is tasty all on its own and then just makes the fried wings sing.  They are perfectly crispy, salty and sweet for an amazing snack/appetizer/dinner.

The Perfect Mark – I wanted to make sure I shared Bourbon cocktails that were something out of the ordinary. The twist on this one is that it combines Bourbon with both sweet and dry vermouth for a slightly sweet and boozy delight.

Bourbon Caramel & Pecan Ice Cream – You guys know how much fun I’ve been having making ice cream and as soon as I made the bourbon caramel for the wings, I knew it had to be in an ice cream.  The mildly sweet and crunchy pecans with the boozy caramel was perfect in ice cream!

Honey Bourbon Pulled Pork – The best part of this pork recipe is that it’s made in the crockpot, so it’s super easy.  Of course the other part is that it’s absolutely delicious!  The pork is tender and tasty with the wonderful flavors of onion, honey and Bourbon.  You’ll find a ton of ways to use this pork!

The Kentucky Ice Pick  – The beauty of this cocktail is in its simplicity.  Sweet tea is not meant to be fussy so adding Bourbon and not much else to it seemed like the right move. Enjoy on a hot day out on the porch!

Bourbon Baked Beans – Since we know how well Bourbon goes with syrupy sweet ingredients and pork, it’s no surprise to find all of them back together in these baked beans.  The part I love most about this is the big hunks of salt pork.  It’s a nice savory surprise when you’re eating the beans.  They also keep in the fridge up to a week so they make for great leftovers all week!

Blueberry Balsamic Old-Fashioned – This cocktail was a fun way to move “out with the old and in with the new”…Flavors of the Month that is.  Blueberries, balsamic vinegar and Bourbon make a great trio and are lovely in this boozy cocktail.  It also has a surprising chocolate-y after taste, did anyone else get that?

I hope you enjoyed these recipes, do you have a favorite?  What are some others I missed that you like?  Well as I’ve already mentioned August’s Flavor of the Month will be blueberries and I cannot WAIT to get started!
