Shamrock Shake

/ Uncategorized

Sometimes Derek and I are on the same wavelength so much, it’s a little creepy.  The other day we were watching TV and I went into the kitchen to get some water.  As I was filling my glass, I was mulling over whether or not to write a St. Patrick’s Day post in my head.  The moment I started thinking about it, Derek called from the other room “Are you going to do a St. Patrick’s Day post?”. Whoa.  It was too weird!  Is there someone in your life you’re that in sync with?

So we started brainstorming ideas.  I knew I wanted to share something simple and preferably “dessert-y”.  Derek mentioned a Shamrock shake and I realized that would be a tasty cocktail.  Not to mention that wonderful green color!

Let’s get our shamrock on!

I like this shake because it’s delicious, a festive green color and doesn’t take too much work. Start by pouring the milk in your blender.  I’m always amazed at how little milk is actually required in a thick milkshake.  I recommend 2% milk for this.  If you use skim or nonfat, you’ll end up with a thinner shake.

Next add your ice cream and top with the Crème de Menthe and Bailey’s Irish Cream.  You may have to buy a regular size of the Crème de Menthe but I know Bailey’s (or other brands) is available in the little airplane bottles.  Crème de Menthe isn’t too spendy (maybe $12), so you won’t break the bank if you buy a regular bottle.  Try it in hot cocoa or coffee and you’ll use it up quickly. 😉

Blend about a minute or until it’s smooth.

Pour into 2 smaller glasses or one large for a mondo personal shake (I won’t judge).

If you want to get really festive, top your shake with whipped cream and green sprinkles.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

I’d love to hear what other stuff you guys are making to celebrate.  Let me know in the comments!
