Mexican Shandy

/ Uncategorized

Since Father’s Day is next Sunday, I wanted to share a cocktail that you could all share with your dads.  This drink would be great at a BBQ on a sunny day.  It’s also an easy drink to make for a bunch of people and works great in a pitcher.

This type of cocktail is called a Shandy.  It’s a light beer mixed with lemonade.  Lately, I’ve been in the mood for a dark beer, which I’d normally have with lime.  It got me thinking “this might work as a cocktail” and thus the Mexican Shandy was born.

For this recipe I recommend Negra Modelo or Dos Equis.  Nega Modelo with LimeLook for a dark Mexican beer.  There are others out there, but those are the two I come across most frequently.  Pick your favorite, and if you recommend a different brand let me know in the comments.

Chill a pint beer glass in the freezer at least an hour before you’re ready to serve.  We’re going to use limeade as the citrus component of our Shandy.  I used the Newman’s Own brand and it was delicious.  The main thing you’re looking for is one with real lime juice that isn’t too sweet.  We want a nice tart limeade to complement the beer.

Pour them both into the chilled glass then gently stir to combine.  We don’t won’t to stir too vigorously or the beer will foam over.

Add a lime wedge for garnish if you’d like and enjoy.
