Don’t Judge Me Mondays: Tarragon Mule

/ Uncategorized

Recently, Advanced Mixology reached out to me about their Moscow Mule copper mugs.  They were kind enough to send me this set to check out.  Obviously I couldn’t wait to take them “for a spin” as it were.  I have to say that I would seriously have been tempted to buy this set had they not sent me one, it’s an amazing deal!  We didn’t have any copper Moscow Mule mugs because if I’m being honest I was too cheap to spend the money, they always seemed so dang pricey!  This set is less than $40 and comes with 4 mugs, 4 copper straws, coasters, and a copper shot glass.  The mugs are sturdy but lightweight with durable handles (my husband can attest to this since he seemed on a mission to try to break them).  I am sure we’ll be using the straws a ton for other cocktail as well!

Onto the drink!  As I mentioned yesterday, I am going to focus on all things licorice flavor this month because my birthday is in September.  A cocktail featuring tarragon seemed like a great way to start!  If you’re never tried tarragon, I feel like it’s a good way to dip your toe into  licorice.  It has that licorice-y flavor but with some grassy notes, so it’s not too overpowering.  You can find it in the fresh herb section of most grocery stores.

To start, you’ll fill a shaker about a third of the way with ice.  Now add the lime juice, vodka, and ginger beer (I actually found a diet version to use for a little less sugar).

Then you’re going to cut or rip the sprig of tarragon into the shaker in 1-inch or so pieces.  If you want a really pronounced tarragon flavor you can use two sprigs. To infuse the tarragon into the drink, you’re going to muddle everything in the shaker.  I only recently got a muddler, so if you don’t have one, no worries.  You can just use the handle of a spatula or large spoon and it works fine.

Now fill your copper Moscow Mule mug with crushed ice and strain the cocktail in.

Garnish with a small piece of tarragon or a little lime wedge if you’d prefer.

This cocktail is refreshing with an herby twist on the classic.  It has just a hint of that licorice flavor that is so tasty!

Enjoy!
