Don’t Judge Me Mondays: Mom Collins

/ Uncategorized

Sometimes a post starts with flavors I want to combine, or an inspiration I had, and sometimes it just starts with a name.  My husband, Derek, is a big fan of puns and coming up with funny titles for things.  This weekend we were thinking of mom-themed cocktail names.  Derek came up with Mom Collins (instead of the classic Tom Collins) which I thought was brilliant.  I realized I had no idea what was in a Tom Collins, so I had to do some research. Turns out it’s a drink I should’ve been drinking all along since the flavors are right up my alley – gin, lemon juice, sugar, and sparkling water.  How have I never had one before?!?  So to make it a “Mom” Collins, I decided to add a flavor to the mix that I really like, licorice.  Now I know this won’t be for all of you, but I like what I like. 😉

Let’s get to it!

You’ll start by mixing the Sambuca and lemon juice together in a small bowl.  Sambuca is a syrupy anise-flavored liqueur.  Mixing it with the lemon juice now will ensure it mixes in better with the rest of the cocktail.

Now fill your cocktail glass with ice.

Pour in half of the lemon-lime soda.  Then add the lemon Sambuca mixture, and gin.

Top off with the rest of the soda and stir.

Garnish with a lemon slice and enjoy!

This cocktail is light and crisp with a hint of that anise flavor.  The fizz from the soda also makes it refreshing and the herbal notes of the gin marry everything together.
