Don’t Judge Me Mondays: Flower Power

/ Uncategorized

I’m not sure about where you are, but here in the Pacific Northwest it’s starting to finally feel like spring.  My tulips in the back yard are blooming and there are tons of trees blossoming everywhere! Seeing colorful flowers start to pop everywhere is one of my favorite things about spring.  In honor of this, I wanted to create a floral cocktail.  Lavender came to mind first, but I wanted to see what other floral flavors I might be able to include in this celebration of spring.  Elderflower is another delicate spirit I like using that I felt also wouldn’t battle the lavender flavor.  The two paired well together and I the ginger ale adds some nice fizz.

Let’s get to it!

I chose to rim my glass is lavender sugar for a nice garnish.  To make this, put your sugar and lavender in a spice grinder or food processor and blend just a few seconds so that they are combined and the lavender has broken down a bit.

It smells amazing!  Now pour the lavender sugar onto a small plate.

Squeeze the lemon wedge around the edge of your glass and dip the glass in the sugar on the plate.  Rotate it around so you get a good coating.  You’ll have some leftover sugar that I bet would be tasty in tea (I’d love to hear other ideas for how to use this also!).

Now carefully fill your glass halfway with ice.

Pour half of your ginger ale in, then the lavender vodka, elderflower, and gin. My friend Betsy and I made glittery lavender vodka so my drink has a lovely shimmer to it!

Now top with the remaining ginger ale and give it a gentle stir.

With the floral notes, this drink definitely tastes like spring!  The gin adds a hint of herbal flavor too, so it doesn’t taste like a bag of potpourri. 😉

Happy Spring!
