1 Month in!

/ Uncategorized

Well, as of today our little Cupcake has officially been with us a month!  In some ways it feels natural like she’s always been a part of our lives and then sometimes it feels like we have so much to learn!  It’s still hard to believe sometimes that we’re parents….I’m a mom, how crazy is that!  Does that feeling ever go away?  At one point Derek said something about Mother’s Day and I started crying when I realized he was talking about it related to ME, not just our moms.  For some reason, it hadn’t really occurred to me yet that I would be one of those Mothers celebrated on Mother’s Day and it was pretty overwhelming when it was pointed out to me.  We also recently celebrated Easter with her and my family which was tons of fun and we are looking forward to creating more traditions on future holidays.

We were thrown into the deep end of parenthood not long after that first week.  Our little Cupcake is teething and got the flu to boot!  It was tough seeing her so miserable with the flu but she was such a trooper.  One of the things that amazes me about her is her incredible spirit and attitude, already.  It doesn’t take much to make her smile and she is a generally happy baby (even when she was sick). Now that the flu is over, it’s nice to get back to a “normal” routine. Seeing her smile up at me when I get her out of her crib in the morning is still everything I need!  We’re also starting to learn her cues which has helped us all.

I am also constantly amazed at her development and how quickly she’s growing.  It’s stunning to see how quickly she’s learning things from week to week.  We are both looking forward to the days when she talks.  It’s so exciting to think about what her voice will sound like saying actual words and to think about what kinds of questions she’ll ask (and funny things she’ll say).

Someone is more interesting in chewing on the plate than the food on it, lol!

It’s also a wonderful feeling to see that she knows us now.  We’ve slowly started introducing her to family and close friends and it makes me feel good to see she does look for us when someone else is holding her and smiles when she sees one of us.  On the other hand, I’ve also been really pleased with how well she’s done meeting new people.  Derek and I had our first outing yesterday without her.  My parents came over and watched her.  I have to admit, it was tough to leave her but it was also really nice to be out as a couple. :). The teething made things a little rough on Grandma and Grandpa but they also had a lot of fun time with her.

She always gets sleepy when she’s having her bottle 🙂

All in all, it’s been a great month and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for our little family!
