Orange-Glazed Pork Chops

/ Uncategorized

The possibilities with citrus really are endless!  I’ve been brainstorming a savory recipe to share and after several attempts, these pork chops are it!

Let’s get to it!

The first order of business is to make the marinade (which will become the glaze later).  Mix together the soy sauce, orange juice and one tablespoon of the honey in a bowl.

Put your pork chops in a Ziplock bag or shall bowl and pour the marinade over the chops. Marinate for an hour at room temperature.  Keeping it at room temp will ensure it cooks more evenly later.

After an hour, take the chops out of the marinate and pat them dry.  Set the marinade aside (do not throw it away!).

Now heat the vegetable oil in a medium cast iron skillet over medium-high heat.  Mix together the flour with the salt and dip each of the chops in that, coating each one lightly with flour.  This coating is going to add some nice crispiness to the chops.

Now cook the pork in your heated pan.  Cook for five to eight minutes on each side until each is browned. Once the chops are done, take them out of the pan and set aside on a plate.

Now pour your marinade into your pan.  It’ll bubble a bit and that’s ok.

Turn the heat down to medium and stir in the honey and Chinese Five Spice. If you’ve never had Chinese Five Spice it’s a great spice blend that toes the line between sweet and savory.  The five spices are Sichuan peppercorns, star anise, fennel, cinnamon, and clove.  It’s warm, only a little spicy and a great addition to many dishes.  You should be able to find it in the bulk spice section in your grocery store, if you only want to buy some for this recipe.

Simmer the glaze for eight to ten minutes, or until it’s thickened.

Once it’s thickened, add your pork chops and coat them in the glaze.

Take it off the heat and serve with some of the glaze drizzled on top.  I like serving it with some orange slices on the side.

This recipe is definitely going to become one of our weeknight favorites!  We have most of the ingredients in our pantry and always have pork chops in our freezer.  This makes it an easy and tasty meal to throw together with a veggie side!

The pork chops are moist with a nice crust from the flour and the glaze is sweet but not cloying with the warm flavor of the Chinese five spice and citrus zing from the orange.

Enjoy!
