Don’t Judge Me Mondays: Vanilla Greyhound Whip

/ Uncategorized

Have you ever had a cocktail with egg white in it?  It might sound strange, but it’s really tasty. The egg white makes the cocktail frothy and foamy on top.  I’ve tried them before at bars but never made one at home.  I wanted to make a greyhound (grapefruit juice with vodka) for citrus month but just had to put my own twist on it.  Making it with a foamy top seemed like just the thing and was delicious!

Let’s get to it!

The first order of business is the egg white.  Make sure it’s fresh and if you want to be extra-safe, pasteurized.  Hopefully this goes without saying, but for those with weak immune systems or egg allergies, this cocktail is not for you (sorry).  Ok, enough with the PSAs and on to the cocktail!

Start by pouring all of your ingredients in a shaker or jar.  I like using a mason jar so I can see how frothy the drink is getting. If you want your cocktail more tart, skip the sugar. Pop the top on your shaker and shake vigorously for about a minute.  This is going to make that egg white nice and frothy!  Take off the top and make sure things are foamy.

Sorry for the blurriness, but check out that layer of frothy foam!

Now pour the drink into a large martini glass.

Derek bought this marble trivet for us awhile back with the gold monogram and I love it!

Pour the bitters in, try to get each drop equally spaced (do the best you can, as you can see mine were a wee bit haphazard, lol). Now make a design in the foam using a fork or toothpick.  Don’t you feel fancy!

This cocktail feels extra special with that frothy foam on top.  The grapefruit is tart and the vanilla adds something extra.  It’s really a great drink!

Enjoy!
