Don’t Judge Me Mondays: Chestnut Warmer

/ Uncategorized

Some of you have asked how (or if) I was going to share a cocktail featuring chestnuts for this Flavor of the Month.  Well, here it is!  Even though winter hasn’t officially started, it already feels like it’s begun with the temperature now dipping.  That being said, the drink was definitely going to be something hot.  I also knew chestnuts blended into a hot beverage would make for a really creamy and luxurious texture (kind of like the chestnut soup I shared a few weeks ago).

So let’s get to it!

Pour the milk, white chocolate chips, chestnut pieces and salt in a medium pan.  The salt is just going to round out the sweetness of the white chocolate.

Cook it over medium-low and stir occasionally for about ten minutes or until the white chocolate is completely melted.

Now you are going to blend the mixture so the chestnut is no longer in chunks.  I use an immersion blender (you guys know how much I love it!) but you can also carefully pour it into a blender and mix until it’s completely smooth.

Once the drink is blended, something magical happens. Something about the chestnuts makes the drink really foamy, almost like a latte. After it’s blended, stir in the Cognac. Pour the drink into mugs through a fine mesh strainer.  There will still be a few chestnuts bits you’ll need to strain out.  This cocktail is fairly rich so it will make two large mugs or four smaller ones.

This drink is going to be one of my new winter favorites!  It’s sweet but not overly so and has a velvety smooth texture.  The Cognac also adds a nice warmth without an alcohol burn.

Enjoy!

What’s your favorite winter warmer this year?
