Don’t Judge Me Mondays: Blueberry Lemonade

/ Uncategorized

Well, it’s time for another cocktail! Many of you have probably had something with blueberries and lemon in it.  The duo is a classic flavor combo.  Lemonade has been on my mind the last few days because we’ve been having a bit of a heatwave here in Seattle (or a heatwave for us, at least, he he).  I thought combining blueberries and lemonade for a cocktail just seemed like the way to go!

First you’re going to make the blueberry syrup. Add the blueberries, brown sugar, and salt to a small sauce pan and cook over medium heat.

As the mixture heats, start to mash the softened blueberries with a fork to squeeze some of the juices out.

Continue cooking another 5 minutes or until the sauce has started to thicken.

Now strain it with a fine mesh strainer into a bowl and let it cool.

This syrup will last in a covered container in the fridge a couple of weeks.  It would also be great on pancakes or in sparkling water.

Now onto the cocktail!

Start by mixing the blueberry syrup and and lemonade in a small pitcher or bowl until the syrup dissolves into the lemonade.

Now fill a sixteen ounce glass with ice.

Add half of the syrup and lemonade mixture and pour in your gin.

Now top with the rest of the lemonade mix and stir.

Garnish with a few blueberries.  I actually used some of these pickled blueberries for some zip.

Sip and enjoy!

What’s your favorite spirit to pair with blueberries?
