Don’t Judge Me Mondays: The Birthday Girl

/ Uncategorized

Not only is today my birthday, but it’s also National Chocolate Milkshake Day.  How lucky can a girl get!  In honor of both of these things, I am sharing a version of a chocolate milkshake.  Since it’s Don’t Judge Me Monday, it will obviously be a boozy one. 😉  Today I am using a kind of booze I haven’t discussed before, Sambuca. Since it’s my birthday I decided to use a spirit whose flavor I love, even though it may not be for all of you.  Sambuca is anise-flavored…in other words, it tastes like black licorice.  It seems like black licorice or anise is one of those flavors you either love or hate and I love it.  Licorice tea, licorice candy, licorice booze- I love it all!  My husband, on the other hand, says black licorice tastes like “death and broken dreams”.  To each their own.

Let’s get to the milkshake!

Take the ice cream out of the freezer to soften.  Add the milk and then ice cream and chocolate syrup to the blender.  Blend until it’s smooth.

Now pour in the Sambuca and blend until it’s mixed in.  I like mind with a strong licorice-y flavor, but if you want yours milder just reduce the amount of Sambuca and/or add more chocolate syrup.  It’s all up to you!

I love the swirl design made by the Sambuca!

Pour in your favorite glass.

Even if it’s not your birthday, you’ve made it through Monday.  That’s reason enough to celebrate, so add that whipped cream, chocolate syrup and sprinkles.  You only live once!

What’s your favorite birthday indulgence?  Is there a flavor you enjoy but no one else does?
