Don’t Judge Me Mondays: Vinho Verde
I thought I would mix things up today and talk about a particular kind of wine, rather than share a cocktail recipe (don’t worry, there’s a special cocktail post coming on Friday!).
I first tried Vinho Verde about 10 years ago. It’s a nice wine as the weather gets warmer, so it’s always one I pull out as spring arrives. Vinho Verde is a light, crisp, and slightly dry wine with a bit of fizz. All of this makes it perfect for warm weather. It’s easy to drink and is oh-so-refreshing.
While Vinho Verde may not be a wine you’ve heard of, it should be available wherever you buy wine in your area. I have found it at most of our local grocery stores, Costco, Cost Plus/World Market, Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods. Another great thing about Vinho Verde is how cheap it is! Both of these were $10 or less.
The first one is fromTrader Joe’s and is called Espiral. It was $5! I also noticed Tarder Joe’s had a Rose version of this same brand that I might have to try next time 🙂 It has a hint of citrus and is the lighter of the two.
The second wine is slightly sharper than the first with more fizz and has a hint of lemon. It’s called Casal Garcia and I bought it at Whole Foods for $10.
Honestly, I have never met a Vinho Verde I didn’t like. This wine would pair beautifully with a light chicken or fish dish, or a nice salad. Because it’s so light, but still flavorful, it also stands up on its own.
Pour yourself a glass and celebrate Monday being almost over.
Cheers!
